We are now seeing a more experimental spirit is creeping into interior
decor, inspired by the continuing fashion for various types of ethnic
design. In particular, India is famous for its love of ornamentation
and bright colour contrasts which often come as a surprise to Westerners.
Jaipur
is known as the Pink City of Rajasthan from its many houses and
palaces, which are washed with pale shades of red. The Moon Palace
is a hymn to colour and ornamental excess, with mirror-encrusted
walls and ceilings inlaid with gold leaf and coloured glass in a
reflective riot of rainbow tones. Everywhere there are gold and
jewel colours: reds, greens and pinks in ceramic tiles, mica glass
and painted patterned walls.
This range of pillows and cushions is inspired by the mirror work
embroidery of Gujarat and Rajasthan, which also incorporates silver
and gold thread, sequins, and motifs such as flowers, stars and
sun symbols. Here it is worked upon rich velvets and luxurious brocades,
emphasized by gold cord piping.
Use these products in an interior inspired by global design ideas
of India, Morocco or Arabia. They also work well in more traditional
interiors, alongside dark wooden furniture, and the gleam of gold
and brassware.
